ANUBIS

Transition • Release • Sacred Passage

Anubis is an ancient Egyptian deity associated with funerary rites, protection of the dead, and the passage between life and death.

For September, I’m sitting with Anubis as a symbol of transition — what has ended, what needs to be released, and what we may still be carrying long after its season is over.

Desire can show us this too. Sometimes what keeps calling our attention is not asking to be revived. Sometimes it is asking to be understood, honored, and finally released.

Sometimes it is desire. Sometimes it is a relationship. Sometimes it is sexuality, spirituality, pleasure, confidence, identity, or simply the feeling that there is something about themselves they want to understand more deeply.

Questioning Desire Inside a Marriage

A married client first came to me because he was privately questioning his bisexuality and trying to understand his desire for pegging.

He loved his wife. He wasn’t trying to leave his marriage. What scared him was what the desire might mean to her. Would she see him differently? Would she question his masculinity? Would she think it meant something about him that he wasn’t actually saying?

So we didn’t begin with, How do you convince your wife?

We started with him.

What did he actually want? What did the desire mean to him? What was he asking his wife to understand about him, even if she never wanted to participate in everything he desired?

Over time, he began having more honest conversations with her while also respecting where her boundaries were.

It has now been about two years since we began working together. They are still happily married. Her boundaries are still her own. His desires no longer have to live completely in hiding.

They have even begun exploring lifestyle spaces together and finding new ways to bring curiosity, play, and joy into their marriage.

For me, that is the important part of the story.
Not every desire has to end in the same answer.

Sometimes understanding each other changes enough.
